BUILDING SUCCESS FROM THE GROUND UP:
DESIGNING FOR VERTICAL SCHOOLS

Ali Bounds is a Principal of BVN and a registered architect with specialist expertise in the education sector.

Using her experience in user consultation and numerous building typologies including health, research, workplace, and adaptive reuse, Ali has developed a focus area in education with projects including PLC, MLC, St Patrick's College Strathfield, Green Square Public School, The Kings School STEAM building, Oakhill College Innovation Hub, Sydney University Ross Street Teaching Building, and the redevelopment of Arthur Phillip High School and Parramatta Public School. Recently Ali has also been working with SINSW on several urban vertical schools and advising on the development of the Urban Schools Guidelines which build on the SINSW Modern Methods of Construction (MMOC) guideline work.

As an original thinker, the concept of experience is central to Ali’s approach to architecture and design. She is determined to not only meet client aspirations and end user expectations, but to exceed them through interrogation and collaboration. Her leadership style is ideologically similar and she leads conscious of her team’s opportunities for learning. She is acutely aware of the responsibility of an architect – as a client advisor Ali works closely to elicit and articulate objectives, and as a leader, she’s quick to seize opportunities and be bold in challenging paradigms.

Ali’s pedagogical spaces are state of the art, research environments push the boundaries, and public/civic buildings offer captivating journeys of discovery.
